BBBRRRRR It’s Cold

Wow it has been cold here for a couple of days now.  I guess everyone in the US is chilly except for Key West(lucky mum).  It’s in the 40’s for the rest of the week then finally we get back to the 60’s by Sat and mid 70’s by Monday.  Just in time for my mother’s visit on Tuesday.

The kids are so excited to see their G-ma.  It has been almost 6 months.  That might not seem too long if your kids are older but in Cooper’s life that is a long time.  A lot happens when you go from 2 to 2 1/2.  Noah is acting older than ever, if that is possible.

However I have caught him saying some things I am not happy with.  He said “Duh” and I just about fell over.  First of all he used it out of context so it didn’t upset me as much.  I was so flabbergasted by what he said that all I kept saying was that that phrase was not nice and it doesn’t sound very smart of him to say that.  I tried to say that made him sound…….dumb, but I won’t use that word so stammering all I could say is that makes you sound  (pause, pause) not smart.  That was the end of that thank God and then two days later he tried to say nu-unh.  I don’t even know how to spell that but you get it he was saying a slang version of no.  I really have to be better prepared for these things.  I just shot him a nasty look and told him that that wasn’t even a word and I can not respond to nonsense words.  I think I only repeated that 2 or 3 times.  How do you even prepare to hear something like that or respond to it.  I’ll learn.

Anyway I digress.  My mom is coming for over a week and we are excited to show her around.  WE have all kinds of plans to go downtown, San Antonio and the hill country.  Of course I will introduce her to all my favorite restaurants(Rudys, Chuy’s) and reacquaint her with our old friends, McCormick and Schmicks.

I can’t wait!

I read that the Jungle Java now won’t open till mid-May or June. Why? Is it really taking that long with construction? Is the delay because of construction on the building or on Jungle Java and their equipment? Are you guys still going ahead with this plan or are your trying to get out of it now and open a Quizno’s instead? I heard that Gregg is thinking of getting another job instead of working full time on the JJ.

I appreciate you trying to have your children speak correctly, but I think you are fighting a losing battle. Maybe I am just jealous, as a mother of two teens, I am happy if I can keep the cursing out of the house. Yes…I do remember the days of telling them not to call anyone stupid and not to say shut up. The bad words in our house were..oh gosh, I can’t remember anymore!! LOL just the other day my 18 year old told me the word Pxxx was just the same as pee and not a swear word.! How I long for toddlers some days!!!

I may be fighting a losing battle but I gotta try something now before they get too big. I can’t imagine the conversations you have with a teenager. Whoa. Yea I don’t need someone trying to justify their language to me. When Noah tries to rationalize with me we will be in for another round. How do you not want to put a bar of soap in their mouth?

Believe me, there are a lot of things I feel like doing with teens, but you just can’t. There are a lot of different battles and you have to choose which ones you fight. We do not allow cursing, and do not have too big of a problem with that. My biggest issue with teens is how where once I had pretty obedient children, now I am finding everything has to be discussed, questioned etc. Neither of mine seem to be able to do much without expressing their opinion. They are becoming their own people and this is part of the growing process. I just demand they show respect. That is the main thing. Enjoy the little ones. You think you will be ready for teens, but I don’t think anyone really is. I also think parents go through just as much growing as the kids. Sorry this is so long…maybe I need my own blog!!! LOL

We are moving ahead with the JJ. I don’t know any website that knows what we are doing, except of course gregg’s. We just met with the contractor at the site yesterday to discuss the HVAC concerns and get all our MEP’s on board where Elec. and things should go. I asked my arhcitect to have the blueprints ready by the 30th so we can get the playscape people started. It takes a while to have the playscape built shipped and rebuilt in our building. So things are still moving. I can’t wait!!

This tidbit is not related to the cold weather. Played the podcast yesterday and heard all the ranting about Detroits mayor. He and his wife were here in Tallahassee last week end. He is a graduate of FAMU and spoke at their commencment. Not sure if he has a home here or not but they did say he visits often.
