WOW
Last Saturday was crazy. We were packed to the gills. It was good practice for our employees since this Saturday is our grand opening. Jungle Java is going to be packed with all the goodies, give aways and free admission. It should be interesting. Saturday we had our biggest day yet more than doubling our regular busy days.
Being a small business owner makes it hard to find affordable health insurance. My tutoring job at the middle school doesn’t give benefits so I’m considering applying for a 6th grade math position at a middle school here. It doesn’t pay nearly as well as Michigan but the hours and benefits are looking well worth it! We haven’t decided either way if I am going to go for it but it is a possibility. One big problem with our health insurance is that I have Celiac Disease. I find it silly that they want a premium for something that requires no medication. If I avoid wheat, barley, rye and some oats I am totally fine. If not it still isn’t anything I am hospitalized for nor get medicine for, just some nice physical discomfort. Gregg has the same thing with his sarcoidocis(spelling?). He is remission and they say they don’t think he will ever get it again but it doesn’t help that Bernie Mac died of it recently. I still can’t believe that. I loved him. He was so darn funny.
I’ve been helping Noah with his homework, even though he doesn’t really want or need my help. He is so funny. I knew since he was a baby that he was a smart little guy. I’m very impressed with how quickly he picks up things. He had a word search to do today and he finished it lickity split. I think he may have my love of puzzles and word games.
Cooper is still in the process of potty training. We really just started in the last week. When he is not in school we put him in underpants. The kid just won’t go if there is something else interesting going on(ie. TV or video game). I do think that the kid likes to pee in his pants. The first time he peed his pants I made him take his own clothes off and put his undies in the hamper. Then I took him to the tub, put him in and used a big cup to rinse him off. Then I had him get his new undies and put them on. Well and hour or so after that he peed again and I told him to take them off. I thought he had gone into my bedroom to put his clothes in the hamper but he came out saying he was all clean and ready to get his undies. He had gone into my tub and cleaned himself off. LOL I related this to my mother and she laughed telling me that I used to do the same thing. He did it again this evening. Obviously this is going to be a work in progress.
On a nice side note, Gregg and I have been spending a little more time away from the Jungle Java. It is just a few hours but we get to bring the kids home from school and both spend time with them before G has to go back. WE have some great staff and I feel confident in leaving them alone. What a nice feeling. WE have even scheduled Sundays off starting the following week. We will have family day and I can’t wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The temperature here has taken a big hit. We are in the mid 80’s during the day but I wonder if that is true since we have been leaving the windows open. I think this is just a cold snap as last year this same weekend it was bloody hot. It is Austin City Limits time and the town is starting to jump. Lots of celebritites are in town as well as all the planned acts and those great impromptu acts. Not a big live music fan so we won’t be going down(plus the grand opening) but it is fun to see the city abuzz. Plus they rescheduled the UT game for this weekend due to the “hurricane” that didn’t hit here. It is crowded this weekend at the local hotels.
Well off to watch Air Bud with the boys. Holes was on the other night. If you haven’t seen it I HIGHLY recommend it. It is a GREAT story. It was very well written and I believe would have gotten better recognition had it not been a “kid’s” book. I know the fact that it is a “kid’s” book may throw you but I implore you to see it. Loved it! For families I would also recommen Secondhand Lions.
Hey Nicole, you might want to know that today 09/17/08 they took Kwame’s name off the zoo tower or at least covered it with a decal..
Good luck to you and Greg really miss him on the radio.
Have you looked into Blue Cross? They do not charge higher premiums for pre-existing conditions. They just will not cover anything relating to the pre-existing condition for the first six months of your new policy. Then, they cover everything at 70%, or more, depending on your choice of policy. I think it’s called Individual Care Blue. I think you can cover the entire family for under $500 per month with a reasonable annual deductible, and 80/20 coverage. Maybe even less in Texas. As for dental, try Met Life dental coverage. It’s about $100 per month for an entire family. You get $1,000 per year coverage for each person on the policy. I think paying $1,200 to get $4,000 worth of coverage is acceptable. All cleanings are covered, as are x-rays at 100%, twice per year. Major stuff is covered at 60-80%, depending on the individual procedure. Also, maybe as a last resort, you can get a major medical only plan (hospital/emergency only) for you and Gregg, and out of pocket any doctor visits you may encounter for the two of you. Get the kids fully insured, as they are more prone to visits to the doctor’s office. Hope this helps.
Thanks Deb, I will share that with Gregg.
Matt, did they put Cockrels name up?
Hi Friend! Haven’t checked in lately & am glad to hear all the good news. When did you actually open jj?? I thought it was planned for June, but not sure. Joe started kindrgrtn - HATES it. Cries and calls home from the office every other day. School is ok - he just misses mommy & that breaks my mushy heart. Kitty, however, is overjoyed to have some peace & quiet. She plays with all of joe’s toys while he’s in school and sometimes she even snuggles me! Would love to see you if you make it to MI in the coming months. Take care….ciao…..kzn
